COLORADO ELK

If not going guided, consider:

  • Over-the-Counter 2nd Season

  • Choose Roaded Units in NW Colorado

  • Possible Units: 21, 22, & 31

Ideally will find a trespass fee via Infinite Outdoors. Ex. Walsh Ranch near Meeker

MONTANA MULE DEER

You MAY be able to draw Montana General:

Buy one preference point in 2025, then use another preference point when applying in 2026 (going in with 2 points)

Hunt Near Wyoming Border in SE Montana

  • Custer National Forest in 704

  • BLM and State Lands in 705

  • Montana Block Management also allows access

OTHER HUNTS

After this and next year of accumulating preference points and getting a feel for western big game hunting, you will have a better idea of where you want to spend more time hunting. Whether that means burning preference points on a mule deer hunt in Colorado or Wyoming again, going elk hunting in Wyoming’s eastern region, or otherwise, your plans will begin to take shape and you will have a variety of opportunities open up by 2027.
